Learn a language from the books you actually want to read.
Open a novel on your phone, tap any word you don't know, and get an explanation that fits this sentence — not a dictionary's first guess. Keep the word and it comes back later as a card, in the sentence you first met it in, until it sticks.
How it works
Read. Public-domain novels in English, French, Spanish and German, split into chapters, with your place in the book kept across devices.
Tap. The sentence is parsed first, so the app knows that German rannte belongs to rennen and that "gave up" is one unit rather than two words. You pick the meaning you meant, and hear the word said aloud.
Keep at it. Saved words become cards in a card game, both directions, drawn more often the worse you know them — and the progress tab turns your reading and reviewing into a streak, a daily goal and a shelf of badges.
Where your reading goes
Nowhere. Every piece of language work — the dictionary, the grammar analysis, the translation, the pronunciation — runs on Basset's own server in Europe. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising, and nothing is sold or shared. See the privacy policy for what is stored and how to take it with you or delete it.
